550 Where we April Fool Wilson into thinking we bought him an Apple iPad (podcast) Thursday, April 1, 2010 [1] [2]
April Fools' Day isn't particularly special for The 404 since we prank each other all year, but that doesn't stop the rest of the Internet (or Natali Del Conte) from participating. Google continues its tradition of April Fools' Day hoaxes with a new Android app that finally bridges the language gap between humans and our furry friends. It's called Translate for Animals and uses the microphone to analyze and transcribe common phrases of your household pets. In related news, Google has also appointed this guy as its newest chief engineering officer.

551 Where Natali and Justin have an Apple iPad battle (podcast) Friday, April 2, 2010 [3] [4]
The CNET New York office is typically a tame environment--unless it happens to be the eve of a big Apple product drop and turns into pure unapologetic madness! It's the day before the release of the much-anticipated Apple iPad and Natali picked one up this morning for a CBS News segment, but little does she know The 404 has our own version, and it's bigger, cheaper, and even comes with its own stylus! Unfortunately, we can't do a side-by-side comparison because the real iPad is currently submerged in a puddle of Wilson's saliva, but we'll try to get the thing in the studio for Monday's show, pending a serious wipedown.

552 Where we're like, 'Been there, done that' (podcast) Monday, April 5, 2010 [5] [6]
This morning Wilson told us he'd tear his hair out if he hears the word "iPad" one more time, and we completely understand, but we still have to talk about it a little bit on today's show, so beware of falling strands. There's plenty of coverage on CNET TV of Saturday's official Apple iPad launch, plus a first look at gaming on the iPad, and, of course, the official CNET review.

553 Where the Doc drops the 'series' (podcast) Tuesday, April 6, 2010 [7] [8]
CNET's resident cell phone expert Bonnie Cha is back from CTIA 2010, and we're all anxious to hear about the new smartphones coming out this year. But the main dish is Sprint's new HTC Evo 4G, the first handheld to use Sprint's WiMax network that promises faster speeds than traditional Wi-Fi (when it's finally deployed).

554 Where Justin and Wilson take a trip to the Jersey Shore (podcast) Wednesday, April 7, 2010 [9] [10]
Look for me and Wilson at an Ed Hardy store near you! We might just pop up on your television set too, if all goes well with a casting call in L.A. asking for Asian-Americans to audition for a reality show based on "Jersey Shore" and "The Hills."

555 Where we're sweating in our jeans (podcast) Thursday, April 8, 2010 [11] [12]
Another Natali Del Conte Thursday is upon us, and, as usual, her timing is perfect because all this week we've been talking about parenting! So far, we've only talked about how frustrating it can be to teach parents how to use technology; however, today's episode exposes all the creative ways we got into trouble as children. It turns out, Justin record isn't exactly "clean," and Natali has something of an evil twin...

556 Where we finally finally finally get multitasking (podcast) Friday, April 9, 2010 [13] [14]
It's been a long, single-tasking journey but Apple finally released OS 4 for the iPhone, and one of the key upgrades includes the ability to multitask. Took you long enough, Darth Jobs! Developers and users will now have the ability to run multiple applications at once, and Apple also demonstrated the Skype app running in the background (does that mean the next-gen iPhone will have a forward-facing camera?) as well as streaming audio apps like Pandora and Apple also unveiled folders for the iPhone that makes it easy to organize all your apps into customizable categories.

557 Where we just add water (podcast) Monday, April 12, 2010 [15] [16]
Wilson's taking a three-day weekend to recuperate from last week's Apple madness, so Natali takes his place to kick off this week of Apple-free episodes...not. Just when you thought Apple would let someone else have the news spotlight, out comes Stop the Madness Steve Jobs, an open letter written by developer Jack Freeman about Apple recently changing the requirements in the iPhone OS terms of service, limiting the programming languages developers can use to create applications.

558 Where we lose big on a Double Down (podcast) Tuesday, April 13, 2010 [17] [18]
This is an image of a new KFC sandwich called the Double Down. If you can't tell, it puts a twist on the classic sandwich and replaces the bread bun with two boneless white-meat chicken fillets (your choice of Original Recipe or grilled) hugging two slices of bacon, Monterey Jack AND pepper jack cheese, topped off with the Colonel's own "secret recipe sauce." Coronary artery bypass graft on the side, please.

559 Where we rub Jill's nose for good luck (podcast) Wednesday, April 14, 2010 [19] [20]
It's April 14, the day before Tax Day, if you live in the U.S. Appropriately, we have Jill Schlesinger of CBS [] on the show to dig through all your tax preparation software questions and the smart financial planning you should be doing now--not later--if you want to live a comfortable life.

560 Where Uncle Sam traps Jeff in a dutch oven (podcast) Thursday, April 15, 2010 [21] [22]
The IRS gods must have tuned in to yesterday's episode and heard Jeff complaining about the tax system, because he woke up this morning to a very lofty charge from his bank to the tune of $600 owed to the state of New Jersey. We're all doing our best to cheer him up, but it doesn't help that the Devils lost game one of the Eastern Conference quarters to the Arkansas Fliers last night.

561 Where Anna David tells us why Reality Matters (podcast) Friday, April 16, 2010 [23] [24]
Established author, frequent guest, and friend of The 404 Anna David joins us on today's episode to accomplish two very specific goals:

Talk about her new book "Reality Matters," a collection of essays penned by a handpicked pack of storytellers that examine our obsession with reality television. Drag Justin's name through the mud.

562 Where we picked up an iPhone 4G at a bar, bought it a drink, and took it home (podcast) Monday, April 19, 2010 [25] [26]
The same thing always happens to the Internet in the months building up to a new Apple product: a random Twitter users and/or one of the big tech blogs gets their hands on a one-off photo and the entire industry blows it up speculating whether or not the image is an authentic leak. Today is one of those days.

563 Where strange things are afoot at the Circle K (podcast) Tuesday, April 20, 2010 [27] [28]
The first half of today's extra silly episode of The 404 Podcast is all about the latest updates surrounding the iPhone 4G prototype found on a bar floor in Redwood City, California--turns out the phone really does belong to Apple, and Darth Jobs wants it back. Last night, Gizmodo posted a picture of a very brief letter sent to editorial director Brian Lam asking for the device in question, validating its authenticity as an Apple product. So now that it's out on the open, certain issues need to be addressed on our show.

564 Where we're DJing a Broadway musical (podcast) Wednesday, April 21, 2010 [29] [30]
Last night marked the New York premiere of Green Day's new musical "American Idiot," and no one is happier about a full choir performing "Time of Your Life" than The 404 Podcast. The three of us have mixed feelings, however, about some of the other "alternative musicals" that are popping up. Does the world really need a Broadway show based on a Web-slinging base jumper, or worse--a Harvard-grad prosecutor with daddy's credit card?

565 Where we get drunk off Ben & Jerry's (podcast) Thursday, April 22, 2010 [31] [32]
We've arrived at another Del Conte Thursday and we're all getting Buzzed to celebrate, which could mean one of three possible scenarios:

1. We use Google Buzz to see what our West Coast friends are up to at 8 a.m. on a Thursday morning. 2. We log on to AT&T's new to find the closest bodega that carries Yerba Mate, aka "weed tea." 3. We plan to get sloshed on Bonnaroo Buzz, a new coffee-flavored ice cream with English toffee pieces and whiskey caramel swirls. Which one is it? I'm not just going to tell you; you have to listen to find out, dummy.

566 Where Jeff gets number 9 (podcast) Friday, April 23, 2010 [33] [34]
The subject of Jeff's bad cell phone luck has come up several times on The 404 Podcast already, but we're coming back to it once again because he just received his NINTH Palm Pre from the good folks at Sprint, who are now offering a "trade nine, get one free frozen yogurt" stamp card in his honor.

567 Where we get caught playing with our toys (podcast) Monday, April 26, 2010 [35] [36]
Today's episode of The 404 Podcast resurrects our love for action figures and other toys from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Jeff's a little older than Wilson and me, but we can still bond over our mutual love for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and our mutual hatred for picking up all those foam Nerd darts.

568 Where we have a warrant for your arrest (podcast) Tuesday, April 27, 2010 [37] [38]
Gizmodo's story of the lost iPhone just got a little too real, with San Mateo County police raiding Gizmodo editor Jason Chen's Fremont, Calif., home in search of any information surrounding the acquisition of the 4G prototype.

569 Where it's a bad day for the Internet (podcast) Wednesday, April 28, 2010 [39] [40]
Last week on The 404 Podcast, we talked about the Boy Scouts of America's newest merit badge for Geocaching that teaches young men how to use a GPS Navigation device to locate hidden containers across the world. Today, the Scouts have added a new tech-related achievement--a merit badge for playing video games.

570 Where we buy Palm for five bucks and a coke (podcast) Thursday, April 29, 2010 [41] [42]
In a sneak-attack move that left everyone (including CNET's own Bonnie Cha) surprised, HP, not HTC, announced that it will buy Palm for $1.2 billion. Many industry pundits consider the partnership out of left field; few remember HP's early foray in the world of PDAs starting with the Jornada handhelds that even found their way into the capable hands of Denise Richards in the James Bond film "The World is Not Enough."

571 Where the winner of the Audiophillie is... (podcast) Friday, April 30, 2010 [43] [44]
Steve Guttenberg joins the show today to unveil the winners of the Audiophilliac awards, popularly known as the "Audiophillie Music Awards for Excellence in Recorded Sound"--started right here on The 404. The premise of the contest? Not the quality of the songs, but the quality of the song recordings. There's a reason Guttenberg's ears are insured for a million dollars.
